朝早くから大荷物でタクシーに乗って9:00にチェックイン！
Checking into the hospital from 9:00 am by going there by taxi.
病棟へ向かう。感じの良いヘルパーさん達が丁寧にお出迎え。
Went to my ward. Nice helpers welcomed me politely.
「XX様。お待ち下さいませ。お部屋が空き次第お呼び致しますので。」
"Ms.XX, please wait.I will call you when your room is ready."
最近の病院は患者をお客様扱い。昔とは違ってステキな変化だ。
What a nice change! They treat you like a client now!
看護士の婦長さんがお出迎え。
Then Nurse manager welcomed.
「私と同じ病気の患者さんはいらっしゃるんですか？」
"Are there patients just like me?"
「たくさんいらっしゃいますよ。」
"Yes, a lot."
「皆さんお元気になられていますか？」
"Are they recovered?"
「はい。皆さんお元気で退院していますよ！」と笑顔。
With smile, "Yes, everyone get well and leave this hospital."
なんだか安心した。Somehow I felt safe.
大部屋に行くと、同じ日に入院の方が私服で入って来た。病気には見えない。
When I went my large room, other patient came in. They didn't look ill.
そして尿検査や採血。
And Urine and blood test.
看護士さんから色々と質問を受ける。
Getting questions from nurse.
正直、手術が怖いと伝えると、直前まででも医師が質問に応じてくれるとのこと。
Honestly, I told that I was scared of surgery and she told me that my doctor would answer any kind of question till right before surgery.
そしてその後に麻酔科の先生から翌日の手術の説明を受ける。
Then, I had an explanation of anesthesia.
麻酔は点滴からの痛み止めではなく、硬膜外麻酔を希望。
I asked for epidural anesthesia not painkiller in I.V.
点滴に痛み止めを入れたタイプだと術後に吐き気が酷いと聞いたから。
Because I've heard pain killer in I.V. would gives you horrible queasy.
背中に注射と聞いて怖かったが、人生一度だから何事もチャレンジ！
I was scared when I've heard of shot on my back, but I should challenge! for one life.

もしかしたら、硬膜外麻酔から点滴に変わるかもと言われ少し不安。
I was a bit anxious when she said my anesthesia might be switched to something else.
それから、担当医が4名挨拶にいらした。実際には担当医は6名。
And 4 of my doctors out of 6 came to say hello.
なかなかどの先生も若そうだ。自分より年下っぽい気がする。
They all looked young. Even younger than I, maybe.
前日から病人モードになりたくなかったので、昼食はうどんを食べに外へ。
I went to eat noodle for lunch because I didn't get into sick person mode.
手術前の不安が一気に増して来たので、とりあえず疑問をノートにまとめて聞いた。
My pre-surgery fear has increased so, I wrote down my questions to ask.
1.腎臓の部分切除の合併症の尿漏。それは何処に尿が漏れるのか？
1. Urine leak by surgery. Where is it leaking?
先生：結局、尿管に近い所を切るのでそこから尿が漏れる可能性が稀にありますね。
Doctor: Since cutting near ureter, there might be a possibility for your urine to leak from there.
私：それはドレーンに溜るんですよね。先生：そうです。
I: They will be in drain? Doctor: Sure.
2.背中の麻酔というのは具体的に何処に針を刺すのか？
2:Anesthesia on my back, exactly, where does needle go?
先生：丁度、胸椎の真裏あたりですよね。私：なるほど。
Doctor: It's a back of your thoracic vertebra. I:Okay, I see.
3.よく手術前にお腹の毛を剃ると聞くが、私も剃るのか？
3:Do I have to shave those thin hair around my stomach?
先生：男性で濃い人なんかは剃りますけれど多分剃らないでしょうね。
Doctor:Hairly guys need to be shave but in your case, probably not.
4.一週間に何人くらいの患者が同じ手術をするのか？
4.How many patient gets the similar surgery in one week?
先生：ここの病院は特に多いので一週間に4人くらいです。
Doctor: In this hospital, 4 person per week which is a lot.
5.傷は具体的に自分の身体の何処に出来るのか？
5.Where do I get my scar exactly?
具体的に私の身体の何処に当たるかを指して頂いた。
I asked him to point my stomach.
実際に眼で見て想像する方が言葉より分かりやすい。
It's much better to understand by visualizing it than words.
6.抜糸の必要がない溶けてしまう糸は何の素材で出来ているのか？
6.What is the material of strings which melt in your body?
先生：何だろうなぁ？調べておきます。
Doctor:I am not sure...I will check.
7.腎臓に到達するまでの段階で一体何層切って何層縫うのか？
7.How many times do you cut till it reach to my kidney and how many layers do you sew?
先生：まず表面の脂肪を切って、それから内腹斜筋と外腹斜筋を切って、それから腎臓を切って腫瘍を取り出します。
Doctor: First, You cut your fat, then, obdminal internal and external musle, then kidney,then getting rid of your tumor.
私：ということは何層かになっているということですね？
I:That means it has some layers?
先生：そうですね。三層になりますね。
Doctor: Yes, 3 layers.
私：良く分かりました。ありがとうございました。
I: I understood it well. Thank you so much.
ここまで時間をかけて丁寧に答えて下さったのでとても安心。
Now, I feel safe about surgery.
バタバタしていたら時間が過ぎて消灯前。
And time has come to sleep.
外来でお忙しいはずの執刀医が病室にいらした。
My doctor who is busy with many patient came.
先生：明日は手術ですから今日はゆっくり休んで下さいね。
Doctor:Surgery will be on tomorrow, so,please rest well.
こういう些細な気配りが患者の医師への信頼に繋がる。
That kind of delicate care to patient will be the trust of doctor.
そして21:00から食事止め。0:00から飲水止め。
Then no food after 21:00 and no drinks after 0:00.
明日の手術に備えて下剤を渡されて飲んだ。
I was given purgative pills for the next day.
夜中に便意があったら嫌だなと考えたら眠れなかった。
When I thought about going to the bathroom in midnight, I couldn't sleep.
